About Heal the Hood

Heal the Hood MKE is more than a block party — it is a movement rooted in love, unity, and strategic community transformation. Founded by Ajamou Butler, Heal the Hood MKE was created as a direct response to the need for safer, healthier, and more connected neighborhoods in Milwaukee. For over a decade, our Annual Block Parties & Resource Fairs have served as vibrant hubs where thousands gather for live entertainment, free food, family engagement, and direct access to vital resources. Each event is intentionally designed to go beyond celebration — functioning as a space for mass resource distribution, cross-sector collaboration, violence prevention, and neighborhood empowerment. From health services and education support to employment pathways and youth programming, Heal the Hood MKE creates environments where joy meets strategy and connection leads to measurable impact.

What began as a grassroots community gathering has evolved into a replicable blueprint for high-impact engagement that extends beyond city limits. Through national convenings, strategic partnerships, media features, and digital reach, Heal the Hood MKE carries a growing national and international footprint, demonstrating that structured, love-centered community healing can influence audiences worldwide. At its core, Heal the Hood MKE remains what it has always been: a celebration of life, a model for sustainable community activation, and living proof that when leadership, collaboration, and culture align, transformation is not only possible — it is inevitable.
